I worried that Ayden's love was Stockholm Syndrome because almost no one treats him well or without suspicion aside from Freyrik. Oddly enough, I understood Ayden better even though he wasnt human. Having said that, he has some great lines and his love and passion for Ayden is believable. He was just too distinctive a character at times.

Also for a leader who was beloved by his people, he seemed out of touch with what they were thinking and feeling.

Freyrik was almost too compassionate and patient at times. But I liked the fantasy story a lot and even more so, the political intrigue and maneuvering of the characters. This is a fantasy book first with elements of romance. Review 1: At first I was disappointed because I was in the mood to read a romance.
